During a holiday on one of the islands in the north of the Netherlands, the artist was struck by the wide flat landscape. This kind of landscape gave her a feeling of freedom. It was an inspiration to make a number of paintings in this theme. The simplicity of the subject, gave her the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials.
